Ronchamp chapel is one of Le Corbusier’s most unusual projects of his career. This is the reason to conduct research about this chapel. The research group consisted of Ali Afrasiabi, Wilco Boogert and myself.
The main focus of this research was the play of light in and on the southern wall of the chapel. After we did a literature search, we made a scale model of the southern wall. The chapel is made of concrete. Because we wanted to work with the original materials, we made a mold of Styrofoam (a negative of our digital 3D model) and filled it with concrete. We simulated the real situation in the light room at the TU/e and continued our research about the influence of light in the Ronchamp Chapel.
